Described by Opera Magazine as “A magnetic Italian mezzo-soprano who stole the show as Carmen”, Italian mezzo-soprano Arlene Miatto Albeldas has captivated audiences with her commanding stage presence, emotive interpretations, and versatile artistry. 

With a passion for both classical opera and new works, she has performed with renowned companies such as such as Welsh National Opera (WNO), English National Opera (ENO), Opera North, Wexford Festival Opera (WFO) -at prestigious venues like St. David’s Hall (Cardiff), The Coliseum (London), and Cadogan Hall (London) - The Grange Festival and Teatro Regio di Parma, working under the direction of leading conductors and directors. From acclaimed performances in major international festivals to debuting new roles, Arlene’s career is on an exciting rise, blending artistry with a modern, vibrant approach to opera that speaks to both traditional and new audiences alike, establishing herself as a compelling performer on both national and international stages.

In 2024, she made her debut at the prestigious Festival Verdi in Parma, performing the role of Imelda in La Battaglia di Legnano alongside Marina Rebeka, Antonio Poli, Vladimir Stoyanov, and Riccardo Fassi.

Her upcoming engagements at Teatro Regio di Parma include covering Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi) and debuting the role of Bersi in Andrea Chénier with Gregory Kunde, Saioa Hernández, and Luca Salsi, under the baton of Francesco Lanzillotta.

Arlene’s repertoire showcases her remarkable versatility, ranging from the classics to contemporary works.
In the UK, recent highlights include Polina (The Queen of Spades) at The Grange Festival under the baton of Paul Daniel and directed by Paul Curran, Carmen (Carmen) on a UK tour with Opera Brava and in concert at Cadogan Hall with ENO orchestra conducted by Olivia Clarke and the direction of Amy Lane, Lucretia (The rape of Lucretia) with WNO and Opera North directed by Olivia Fuchs, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) with WNO conducted by James Southall and the direction of Emma Jenkins, performing in prestigious venues like St. David’s Hall (Cardiff) and The Coliseum (London), Teresa (La Sonnambula), Zaida (Il Turco in Italia) with Longhope Summer Opera.

She has also premiered contemporary roles such as Lady Louisa Wolseley (The Master) at Wexford Festival Opera, Dmitra (The last Siren) a role written specifically for her by Edward Lambert, The Pope (The Burning Question) by the same composer, both part of the contemporary opera festival - Tête à Tête Opera Festival, where she was praised for the “incredible roundness and richness of her voice” (Chute Chronicle).

She is winner of the Simone Alaimo International Competition, winning the role of Cherubino, the Sybil Tutton Opera Award in 2021 and Audition Oracle's Make Music Award in 2022.

She has been a semi-finalist in in prestigious international competitions such as the 60th Voci Verdiane Competition (2024), the International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti, the Handel Singing Competition, the 71st AsLiCo Competition, and the 59th Tenor Viñas International Singing Contest, though she could not compete in the latter due to COVID.

Arlene’s concert performances span a rich spectrum of sacred and symphonic works. Arlene sang as soloist at London's Cadogan Hall in Symphony No.3 in D minor by Mahler with the Royal Orchestral Society conducted by Orlando Jopling, Handel's Messiah with the Rosenau Sinfonia, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle with the Rosenau Sinfonia in the UK and in Italy with the Orchestra della Magna Grecia at the Magnum Mysterium Festival, Mozart's Messa da Requiem K626, Haydn's Nelson Mass and Handel's Foundling Hospital Anthem at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre with the Aberystwyth Choral Society and the Sinfonia Cambrensis, Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noel with the Nova Symphonia Patavina and Schubert's Masses No. 1 and No. 6 respectively with the Orchestra Filarmonici Friulani and the Orchestra Galilei.

She is regularly invited as a soloist by orchestras and choral societies throughout the UK and Italy, where critics hail her ‘singular burnished timbre’ (Traiettorie).

Arlene honed her craft at Conservatorio Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maestro Carlo Desideri, graduating with honours, and later refined her artistry under the guidance of mezzo-soprano Manuela Custer at the Accademia di Alto Perfezionamento Lorenzo Perosi in Biella, at the Accademia per l'Opera in Verona studying baroque praxis with the renowned contralto Sonia Prina and at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with soprano Patrizia Ciofi.

She is a graduate of the National Opera Studio’s (NOS) Young Artist Programme in London (2020/2021) and an Associate Artist of the same institution (2021/2022).
In 2024 she joined the Accademia Verdiana of the Teatro Regio di Parma.
